Engine rev’s to 5400 in neutral, only gets to 3200 in water. Prop not fouled. Is there a rev switch that may be bad? Replaced all filters, high & low pressure pumps, removed & cleaned fuel tank. 2014 Yamaha F60 with 299 hours

No switch but the ECU will prevent the motor from over speeding at or about 6250 RPM.

For what purpose is the motor rev'd to 5400 in neutral? What does that tell anyone about the condition of a motor?

Apologize for my sloppy info, meter has engine hours at 150, dingy kept on boat deck, looks clean & like new. I reported that it revs to 5400 when in neutral, in fact I was hesitant to push to max, point was that it rev’ed perfectly, only when in water does it is limited to 3400. All repair people are weeks out, grandkids coming to visit. Help 😁😁

In neutral there is no work to be done.----Waste of time other than impressing friends.----Hurry to a boat shop and have them check it out.----Lost spark or lost fuel on 1 cylinder I think.
