115 L6 Mariner Lower Unit

Question,... I've got a 1/8 nylon barbed fitting in the front, inside, (just behind the mounting stud) of my lower unit that has a piece of broken off rubber hose on it that seems to go nowhere. Can anyone enlighten me as to what it is?

pickup for the speedometer,if you have a pitot tube on the transom you dont need it.
