    OK, I installed the lower unit and hooked the muffs up with water, motor started right up. Still hard to shift into foreward & reverse, and it seems to grind for just a moment shifting into gear foreward or reverse.

    I have a new to me 1996 Mercury 115 that has the quick silver shift/throttle that moves foreward/backwards very hard, its almost a 2 hand operation. If I disconect the throttle cable I can move control foreward and back with no effort at all. Everything moves at engine allthough it seems harder...

    1996 mercury 115 2 stroke. I'm replacing the lower unit and both the upper & lower have an alignment pin on the front??? It looks like one has to be removed... which one should I remove and how to? Thanks, Bill

    I think I've got it, pretty sure it was that center pin... I tried to pry it open and close the female side. I cinched it together with a zip tie and its working as it should. Thanks again for your help.

    Yes, so I'm thinking its between fuse and plug... do you see any oroblem with running a new wire from fuse to plug?

    My bad: its 7.3 volts at switch and plug before switch.

    Its not the fuse, I changed it again but it don't look blown and I have power both sides. I have 12.7 volts at fuse and 10.2 volts at switch... test light is bright at fuse and barely comes on at switch.

    OK, I ran a jumper wire from positive side of battery to switch... dash lit up and motor turned over on start. I'm thinking its someplace between fuse at motor and switch???

    I unplugged connection at motor, didn't see any corrosion or broken pins... cleaned with CRC Electric cleaner and put some CRC Dialectric Grease on pins. Still nothing...

    I was wondering about running a wire from battery positive to switch??? Jumper to switch battery?

    Battery test good, I cleaned battery terminals and replaced wingnuts with reg. If I jump solenoid motor turns over as it should, solenoid test good...

    OK, I have 12.3 volts red wire switch off. Switch to run= nothing at red or purple, switch to start= nothing at red.
