    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

The issue also occurs with regards to my 1994 8hp. Sparkplug page shows QL86C, but Common replacement Parts & Cylinder Crankcase show QL77JC4

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

pulling up the ‘97 page,it also shows the same 4 plugs as above, if you use the Crankcase/Cylinder page. Maybe Champion changed their recommendations, I see the plug page you used only goes up to 1993. There isn’t much difference between the two plugs, QL is the same CDI resistor & thread size...

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

“The MarineEngine.com Champion Spark Plug Page does not show QL77JC4 for any year of 20HP.” Interesting. I see where that came from. His motor is ‘96. I selected E20CREDA 20 hp (1996), & got this page, which shows QL82C if you select Spark Plug, under COMMON REPLACEMENT PARTS. If you select...

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

    Did you select a 9.9 motor by mistake? That’s what my 1996 9.9 calls for. I see a ‘96 20hp lists QL77JC4 , along with several optional plugs Part #27 https://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1996&hp=20&model=E20CREDA&manufacturer=Evinrude§ion=CYLINDER+%26amp%3B+CRANKCASE

Lithium battery on an old motor

That is the right track, I was thinking of using car chargers, which may have a desulfate f function, which puts high voltage in. LiFePo4 12V generally specify 12.2 to 12.6V for charging. If your supplies within that range, you should be fine. One caveat is they really do not like to be charged...

Lithium battery on an old motor

Droid is correct. Pb/acid can take some abuse, I have $$ LiPo4 in my RV, they use a different controller. A thermal runaway on a NiCad or lithium…be prepared to swim.

DT25 1987 outboard motor sucked in sand

I don’t know anything about a Suzuki motor, but I’ve run a Volvo I/O into the mud once, & several 9.9 hp Evinrude outboards into soft bottoms while fishing. Each time, they seemed to self flush, & I had no overheating issues. My current Volvo always seems to collect some debris in valve that...

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

When you get the rebuild kit, there are probably 3 different gaskets m (part #11). Compare to the one already on the carb…but also look closely at how the gasket covers, or doesn’t cover, each of the passages. It’s possible that some monkey attempted a previous rebuild, & used the wrong one.

care to comment on my spark plugs?

What exactly are you worried about? If the engine is running fine, keep going. Personally, I have outboard engines that have had the same spark plugs in them for five or six years. A chainsaw that cuts approximately seven bush cords of wood a year plus other year man jobs does not have a spark...

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

It’s close enough. Look up the parts diagrams for both years carbs, you will see they are Similiar. About 1991 they went to the carbs with the “nozzle well” & “flex tube”. Yours shows the same setup. I didn’t watch the video, can’t vouch for how good it is…watch a couple, from those years

89 Evinrude 40 HP ran great, for about 150 feet

Doesn’t matter if it’s in neutral, Fwd, or reverse…the driveshaft still spins, meaning the pinion gear at the bottom of that shaft also spins…& that gear is locked to the shaft, meaning an issue there could be the cause of your stiff spot.

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

I believe it’s just a plug. #15 is the ideal mix adjustment.IIRC, Some models around that vintage used the same top cover, & made some changes during the year. I have a 1996, 9.9 with a top cover that is similiar. #19, along with a small rubber O-ring plugs that passage. In fact, the part is...
