    Johnson starter

    I have a 1976 Johnson 70 hp and replaced the starter,but I noticed the new starter gear has 9 teeth on it and the old starter has 10 looks like the new starter gear fits the teeth on the fly wheel ok could it be the gears are just a lil bit different size?     Have a question about a fuel filter I have a 70 hp Johnson should I put a inline fuel filter on it? I have replaced fuel line from tank to motor bout wasn’t sure about fuel filter, it didn’t have one on it.
