I bought this 40 year-old boat in 2021 for $750.00 with just a visual inspection from an out of state owner. I could see lots of new parts on the engine, and the engine itself was really clean and freshly painted. No battery - uh oh. So I thought what the heck, it'll be fun to tinker with. (I'm retired so I have time to tinker.)
I installed a new battery but she wouldn't turn over- uh oh. I pulled a spark plug and water ran out. Uh oh. Well, I thought, at least it was fresh water. I checked the oil only to find chocolate milk shake on the dip stick. I put a 5 foot bar on the front pully - yup - frozen solid. But this engine is like a little tinker toy, I think. I actually recognize all the parts. What the heck. I dove in.
Fast-forward a few months and she's now once again purring like a little kitten. I'm taking her out once a week or so and the dog loves riding on the bow.
