I havr a 1964 evinrude sportwin 9.5 and for the life of me cant get fire to it. It was running great andall of a sudden quit firing on the top cylinder. I checked the plug wires and found a break. Replaced both wires atill nothing. Checked cpils and both test good, tested condensors and both test good, cleaned and reset points to 0.020, tried unplugging kill switch and same thing no fire and npw I don't have fire at all. Can anybody tell me what I'm miaainf? Thanks

if you still have spark on the other, just take a tester and compare continuity results for each component right back to the condenser (including the plug itself). If that reveals nothing, then I'd replace the condenser and points to start.

OK, engine ran great, dropped a cylinder, found a bad plug wire , replaced both, now no fire. How did you attach the plug wire to the coil heels? I was taught to pair back the center wire on to itself and twist it on to the coil pin and then slide the rubber insulator over the wire and coil heel, making sure that it can't leak electricity on to the mag plate. Did you route the wires correctly, using the clamps provided? What type of plug wire did you use. Standard 8mm copper core? Not carbon core or HEI type wire correct?

I installed wire core 7mm. Ive got spark now to the bottom cylinder but nothing to top. I checked continuity to coils and condensor and both sides are almost identicle. I swapped the condensors with no difference. Rechecked the points at 0.020 mm and they were still set. I'm at my F##K it point and don't know what to do both coils, condensora. points are all showing good and set almost identicle and yet cant get the same results from both.

Remove top coil from magneto plate.----Inspect bottom of the coil.-----Is there a hole burned through ?----Swap coils and see what happens ?

Easy to replace with new.-----New always works.------Find any one of numerous videos on this simple ( installed for about 40 years ) magneto.
