Strange grease fitting

I have an old (1981 i think) evinrude 7.5 hp outboard that im fixing as a project. It has a couple of the normal zerk grease fittings, but on the up and down pivot arm and on the tiller it has this type of grease fitting with smooth sides, so there's nothing for the grease gun to clamp onto. I'm new to outboard. Can anyone help me out and tell me what im dealing with and how to inject grease into these style of fittings?

Thanks. I did. I think a little went into the joints, but a lot just dozed out around the grease gun connector. It seems odd that the motor would have two fittings like these and two that are normal zerk fittings. Thanks for the response.
