2 stroke outboard 150hp idle issue

I have a 2stroke Suzuki dt150 outboard and I'm having issues with idle first off my problem was every time i put it into gear under load it would just quit so we cleaned the carbs reinstalled them and now it idles to high we changed the counting coils we figured that could've been the problem just curious where to go from here! TIA

It sounds like the carbs being cleaned fixed the original issue (dying when put in gear), but now you’re dealing with an idle/adjustment problem rather than ignition.

High idle after carb work on a Suzuki DT150 is usually caused by:
  • Idle speed screw set too high
  • Throttle plates not fully returning to the stop
  • Carbs out of sync
  • Possible air leak at intake

I’d start by confirming the throttle linkage is fully closing, then reset the idle speed and recheck carb sync. Coils wouldn’t cause a high idle, so I’d rule that out.

how do you resync carbs on that and we got the idle to run good now we are dealing with issues when trying to get power out of it (it just bogs down)

Google “Danger Marine”, he has a YouTube video on syncing carbs
do you have any idea what that could be idle is around 600 rpm but when i go to give it gas it almost seems like its hitting a rev limiter and than when i go back to idle the rpm don't come down all the way back to 600

Not familiar with the Suzuki two stroke engines. I have read in forums that the carbs have different jets in multiple carb configurations so hopefully you cleaned one carb at a time and didn’t get parts mixed up. Each carb has to go back in the same place as it came from, the top carb has to go back on top. Getting the linkage between carbs set to factory specifications is also critical.

Unmetered air leaking into the carbs, thinking gaskets? Worn or corroded linkage not allowing the throttle plates from closing? Throttle cable binding and not allowing throttle plates to close.

The rev limiter should limit the engine from reving past 3000rpm’s while in neutral so that makes sense.

I you haven’t a genuine Suzuki service manual I’d suggest you get one. It will have all the factory settings for the carbs and a troubleshooting section plus test procedures. Selffixer.com has a fairly good selection of service manuals for older 2 strokes in pdf format for $10-$15USD. Well worth the money.

Sorry I can’t be more help. Good luck.

yeah we had the carbs apart but i didn't clean them or put them back together so yes that could be an issue but yeah i have an authentic manual but to be honest they are junk they barely have any linkage or carb adjustment specification but i do believe the throttle plates aren't opening or closing all the way but as for the limiter it did that to me while in gear not even in neutral.

I have a service manual for my 2009 DF90A and it is very comprehensive. The rev limiter should only kick in at 3000rpms in neutral and 6000ish rpms. Wonder if your experiencing fuel starvation as opposed to the rev limiter?
