Decided to try Yumbo for some Honda parts not easily available locally and to see how it worked. Their site is not very user friendly at all, you place the order and then it takes a while to get it confirmed they have the part and receive it from a supplier. You pay for the part on order, it’s quoted in US$ and yen but ultimately you are charged yen and you credit card does the conversion. After the goods are received, they package it, weigh it, give you the box dimensions, and then advise shipping cost after you pick a shipper. Then you pay for shipping.

Their site is available in Japanese, English, and Russian.

I picked FedEx, FedEx Japan picked it up Friday morning May 22. It went through Memphis, Montreal, Halifax, then arrived locally at 730am this morning. I got it around noon. I live on a small country road, outside a town of 1,000 people. It’s not a holiday here BTW.

Totally unbelievable shipping.

Totally unbelievable shipping...
...why?

Fast? Slow? Expensive? Cheap?

FedEx used to be my favorite but I don't like it now when companies use them to ship to me. I've had problems with late shipments from them and damaged items that the packaging looked like it had been dragged behind the truck.

One time my postman drove up to my house (totally unusual...centrally located community mailboxes) and handed me a package he found in the road with my name on it. It had fallen off the FedEx truck!

They also seem to charge more than the others IE: UPS or DHL
Although, to be fair, I've had problems with those outfits too.

I have a Prime account but it's not been as reliable as it used to be. And Amazon puts YOU in a box by. limiting selection to their favored vendors.

The noose slowly tightens!

Fast, I can wait weeks for amazon orders if it comes from the USA. I order car parts from Rock Auto in the USA, they arrive in about 1 week via FedEx or UPS which I consider excellent. I’ve had parts from Honda take 10 days when it comes from the USA to the local Honda shop. So 2 business days from Japan to my door is unbelievable.

One of my old car buddies has a 1974 Honda 60 motorbike and found parts for it on Yumbo.

Glad you mentioned that! I have a couple of old Honda 2 wheelers collecting dust in my barn. A friend left them here years ago and has since passed away. I might look into getting them going again and may need some parts.

I’m guessing anything with worldwide use, like 2 wheelers, is still in use in Asia and Africa from back in the 70’s. So lots of demand for parts for those. The pre say 1990/2000 stuff in everything used a lot more common parts for many years and many models. The odd part for my 1999 130 I can get from Honda automotive. The newer stuff, they like to design new parts almost annually.
