1993 mariner 8 hp fueling issue

I have what as best as i can find is a 1993 8hp mariner motor serial od128109

It seems to be in very good condition with great compression and the bottom and has been well cared for.

I just rebuilt the carb with a full kit ,new fuel tank and had problems with fuel flooding the butterfly chamber. would run and stall

Cleaned again polished the seat same issue, replaced needle valve , cleaned fuel filter etc. better but would die after about 30 second to a minute unless squeezing hand prime bulb.

Found debris in the filter and traced it back to the fuel line and male quick connect degrading . replaced both ,new filter ,rebuilt the carb again with special attention to the fuel pump side. same issue. Motor runs well but will not pickup fuel and leans out and stalls. also will only start with choke on . Everything in the fuel pump side looks good to me. I did play with the float height a bit when dealing with the needle valve not closing but i think i have it close back to the original. (as best as i could find it should be an inch from the float bowl deck to the top of the float).

It looks like the fuel pump plate is not available .I am even having a hard time finding an aftermarket carb for this . an oem is about 6 or 7 hundred.

this looks identical
to my carb

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

I'm with you on google AI (grain of salt)

Thanks for the ebay link. It looks like that's a match. It is ready to rebuild with no gaskets.
It would be about 250 to get here where i am. I guess i could hope my fuel pump plate is bad and this used one would fix it.
Original would be about 650 before shipping.
Runners of the same age are going for about 600 to 800 up here .I might be best to go that route and use this one for parts.
I guess its decision time.

Well I was pretty certain I was meticulous.,but I can certainly go over it again. As I stated I cleaned and blew out all the ports and jets, replaced needle valve and seat and they seem to be sealing. Second gasket set. I did adjust the float a bit but have it back close to where I think it should be. I believe mercury spec is an inch to the float when inverted.unless i missed something on the pump side.
