Honda bf90 2002 vacuüm hoses not completely present?

Our bf90 has a vacuüm hose in front of the engine. With a t-connector. However 1 of 3 connections, the one vertical up, has no hose on the connection., its open. Is that right? I will put a photo tomorrow to this thread.
Has anyone an idea of there should be some hose on the vertical connector. And where should it go?

Hi,

Does the arrangement for items 17, 20 and 21 in the link below look similar?

The original hoses would have been of clear vinyl but may have since been replaced by vacuum hose pieces.
Those are simply drains for the engine air inlet housing (sound muffler).

As you can see in the depiction there's nothing attached to the nipple of the 3 way fitting that points up. It's configured that way so that the drain is vented and doesn't become "air locked".

Nothing to be concerned about if so.

Hello jgmo,

It looks similar indeed.

Since the engine ran on euro 95 that gives lots of residue in the carburettors after time (red crumps), and we did not use it for 3/4 year. I cleaned the carburettors thoroughly, after disassembling the complete inlet manifold with carburettors and air filter.

After cleaning I assembled everything but till my surprise after putting the hoses on the air filter box, I noticed that on the 3 way nipple there were only 2 hoses connected.

Because I did not know if there was any third hose to be fitted, I blocked the open piece of the nipple. But then the engine would not run stationair, only high revs.

Below the oil filter the 3 way nipple with two connections can be seen.

We are not using euro 95 again, because it contains more than 10 % alcohol. Only octane 98 which contains no alcohol, that gives no residue.

Anyway I much appreciate your response to my question.

yours sincerely

Teus

Hi Teus,

The link to your photo wouldn't open so I can't comment on that.

I don't know why the drains for the muffler would affect the idle like that but I will try to keep that in mind as a troubleshooting tip for these outboards.

I suspect it may have a connection to the high engine vacuum produced during idle because the crankcase is vented into the muffler and that's the primary reason for those drains. That's only a guess though.

The Keihin carburetors sometimes work in mysterious ways.

Happy boating.

I have a bf90 sitting in my yard right now .... if you can better describe what you you would like a Pic of ... i can post

Hi siscoken,
I believe he was asking about the hoses and "T" type fittings under the muffler but I think we were able to answer the question using the parts page diagram. I'm not sure Teus needs a photo now.

Thank you for offering to do that though and we'll see what he says.
