Yamaha V8 5.7 Inboard with Yamaha Outdrive

Hello All-

New to Inboards and Outdrive however, I’ve owned a few outboards…just acquired a 1990 5.7 Yamaha in a 1995 205 Ebbtide… has the matching Outdrive.

Boat was freshly serviced/full tuneup 3 years ago and ran great, but then set for 3 years with being winterized.

What would be the first order of priority to get it back to being water ready? Thank you in advance for any help.

Ayuh,...... Yamaha outdrives were only imported 2 years, 'n there are No parts for them,....
Best thing to do is sell it, before you break it,....

I’d like to at least get it water ready first… 😬

Maybe just change the impeller and put new gas and fuel filter as everything should still be decent from the tuneup.

Was gonna consider pulling the plugs and spray a little lubricant before rotating the engine.

Check transom and stringers for rot before you spend any money

Verify the condition of the gas likely have to pump out the tank.

Change engine oil and outdrive lube

Inspect bellows replace water pump impeller, pull drive check gimbal and u joints

Test run it on trailer

If that goes well put it in water check for leaks and stay close to the dock until you build some confidence.

As others have said parts and anyone to work on Yamaha drives is hard to find . You are basically on your own.

Are there no aftermarket parts?

Currently, I’m needing both manifolds and risers. Would be nice to get some new ones.

Ayuh,.... you'll probably need to cobble together some Merc parts 'n make 'em fit,.....
 
Question- does anyone know of any aftermarket risers that will bolt straight to the Yamaha manifolds? The aftermarket risers would also have to match up to the exhaust tube as well.

I have a bunch of parts from a Yamaha sterndrive boat that has head gasket issues and I am not fixing it. so here are the available parts but this is just a short list so ask if you need something. It is a twin 350 V8. The boat is in Keswick Ontario
Sell it as a whole for $14,000CDN with all the extra parts

On the boat, come take it off or you can pay a mechanic to remove it. unless its easy
1 Almost New exhaust manifold on the boat only since June
2 fully functional sterndrives on the boat 1-LH, 1-RH
2 sets of risers on the boat
Fairly new Sherwood raw water pump
Fairly new circulation pump


In my garage:
full hose kit in a box ok shape
2 brand new exhaust manifolds in a box
1 exhaust manifold reconditioned in good shape
1 in storage probably RH
1 set of risers in good condition
2 engine couplers ok shape in a box
