Have Serial Number, Can't Find Engine

Number is '80/'81. Can't help to the HP as Mercury numbers from that era don't designate the HP only the year it came off the production line. The next number could be on a 115 HP

    Mariner Outboard

I'm guessing it's made in Japan and has 677- before the 033303, if that's the case it's 1980.

what does p stand for on serial# tag

If it was a Yamaha badged 8M the P would mean it is 1983 or 1991. But because of the different sources giving different information lead to this discussion. As your Mariner motors number begins with 677- it's safe to say it is early '80s, and I'll agree to disagree over whether it's an '83 or...

what does p stand for on serial# tag

Boscoe I'm going to guess you are down under 🙃 This is the USA codes, they start in '84 as Mercurys deal with Yamaha to build 2cyl Mariners expired/disagreed or Yamaha decided they would make more money selling their own brand...

what does p stand for on serial# tag

Correction P denotes 2004 for Yamahas sold in Asia and Australia. P is 1983 in Europe and again 1991 in USA and Europe. Yamaha reuses their letter codes up to 2005 or 6. Open to correction there.

what does p stand for on serial# tag

Q would designate '82. These Mariners are Yamahas painted in Mariner colours and sold by Mercury mostly in Europe and Asia. P also denotes 2004 if it was on a Yamaha badged outboard, And just to make it confusing, some sites give P for '91 The number itself comes up as an '82 Mariner. Here's a...

Mercury Outboard Stator Position Need Help

As you don't say what motor you have ,I'm guessing Merc800. Put a pencil into #1 cyl, rotate flywheel until you feel pencil begins to sink again, mark timing decal. Back up flywheel until pencil starts to sink. Mark timing decal, TDC is middle both marks, TDC on timing decal should be in middle...

    Mercury Age

The number is for a Belgian built 198/82, which would make it a blue band. A pic of the whole motor and powerhead would give an idea to what you have.

    Serial number again

I just reread your original post. No spark. I'm assuming it's turning over. Look at the kill switch and circuit, black/yellow stripe wire.
