    The bolts in the connector should locate in the cut outs in the shift rods. You should have only removed the lower bolt. Read the section in your workshop manual that describes reconnecting the shift rods. This diagram shows how the lower bolt should be refitted. The upper bolt should be similar

    Got it! You say the float chamber vent is the left hand hole so the OP needs to look yet again at that, which presumably follows the heavy red line in the attached diagram. Most likely blocked on the corner where it connects with a vertical section ? The other hole marked with the lighter red...
