fuel squirting out of nipple on intake manifold

I posted an earlier question about excess fuel going into the carb, but I've tracked down the deeper problem. Fuel (maybe mixed with some water) is squirting out of the intake manifold nipple. That travels up a hose that goes to the primer syringe and tees off to a nipple on the top of the carb...

    naive question about carburetor inputs/vent

Hi all, New to outboard repair and I have some naive questions about how carbs work. There are two gas(?) lines that connect to the carb. There is small hose that comes from the primer syringe and connect to a small nipple at the top of the carb (#26 on the image below). When the engine is...

    Is my emulsion tube bad?

I’m getting a film of oil on and around my carburetor. I replaced the needle valve and seat and float. I adjusted the float so that it is basically parallel to the carburetor housing when held upside down. The needle seems to seat well, because if I hold the carburetor upside down and blow air...

    fuel in carburetor throat

There is fuel and oil film in the carb throat and in the bottom of the engine area. There's also often a sheen of oil around the outboard. And she floods pretty easily. But otherwise, starts easy and runs pretty well. But it's quite smoky and smells of gas. Can you help me diagnose the problem...

    Should I upgrade to 4-stroke?

Seeking opinions and experiences. I have a 2000 model year 25hp 2-stroke outboard on my skiff and it pushes the boat to 18kts+. It generally runs well, but burns/leaks gas and floods easily. (Cleaned the carb and replaced float/needle valve and gaskets, but that didn't solve it. Probably...

    Cavitation

The outboard on my skiff cavitates frequently, especially when going downwind or if I hit a patch of seaweed. He didn’t do this before I removed the Doel-fins, but otherwise it’s fine and maybe a little faster without them. The obvious solution is put the Doel-fins back on, which I plan to do...

Carburetor needle either too rich or too lean

1999 Johnson 25HP Looking for some help setting up my carburetor correctly. Symptoms: excess fuel around carb, fuel smell, oil slick behind boat, easy to flood if I squeeze the primer bulb. I tried taking apart the carburetor and replacing the float and gaskets. Replaced the needle valve...

Which shifter cables fit my 1999 Johnson 25HP (photos)?

I'm looking for replacement cables, but mine don't look like the ones listed that say they're compatible with my 1999 Johnson 25HP. I attached some photos. Anyone know which cables will fit?

    tilt/trim pin still too high

On my 1999 25HP Johnson, I set the tilt pin at the bottom holes, but the trim still seems a little high at cruising speed. Is there any way to trim it even lower? Considered removing the pin entirely, but I'm guessing that's a bad idea?
