    The throttle lever doesn't hit the engine block. At WOT the timing plate should contact the spark advance stop bolt. IIRC mine had a rubber stopper on the end of it. Tried to show it below, mine adjusted with a lock nut on the back side.

    After more research I am comfortable saying the most important of the carb/timing sync is having the cam follower leave/contact the cam right between the marks on the cam.
