    When you say it "runs like it is hitting a rev limiter" you mean it's revving up & bouncing off the limiter? Well if it's not making the boat lurch then I'm thinking it's your prop isolator.

    I don't know how equivalent that is since the parts diagram for the Yam 5SK shows it's water-cooled, with an impeller and the Mariner 5M is air-cooled and has no impeller in the leg. Like I said--it can be a challenge.

    6E3 also means it's a 5hp. 142346 puts it in 1985 production. It can be challenging finding correct part numbers for this motor since it's made by Yamaha--but it's a model Yamaha didn't sell in the USA.

    I know it's possible bc my used pontoon came with no gauges and the harness was chopped. Only connections were to the battery and the ignition & trim switch. I wanted a tach and System Check lights & warning so I had to buy a proper tach and replace the harness with a correct one off eBay.

    It doesn't take much to plug one of the tiny orifices in a carb. I was working on a 71 Johnson 9.5 that would slow down & quit after a few minutes running in a barrel.
