I’ve tried adjusting the shift cable and I’ve taken slop out of the linkages by adding small washers. I’ve tried adjusting the cable at the engine lever, I’ve tried adjusting the cams under the block. I rebuilt the gearbox. Replaced seals. Fresh gear oil.

When in the water and shifting into reverse it grinds and shakes as if it’s half way there. I commit to the shift per the manual.

While on the trailer, if I tilt the engine fully forward, that’s the only time reverse seems to fully engage.

Thanks

Unknown. This was the first time I’ve had it in the water and attempted shifting.

I did notice the shift coupler was somewhat loose and there was a small amount of play. I’ll try again.

I used a bore scope to inspect the bell crank and it seems in excellent condition. No play or wear that I can see.
