2011 5.7 300 hp catalyst motor constant beeping

Hi Guys

This boat’s engine alarm beeps frequently while underway.

I have scanned it for both hard and soft codes with my Techmate and nothing relevant comes up.

Water temp and oil pressure are fine according to the gauges and the boat does not appear to
go into a reduced power mode at any time.

I don’t think it is a low water alarm for a depth finder.

Starts easily and runs strong.

The motor is RWC and coupled to an SX-A drive

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thank You in advance.

Re: "I don’t think it is a low water alarm for a depth finder.".... not part of engine's feature set. however turn off the sonar/Gps, just in case.

2X on Bob's thought...

is you techmate s/w current enough for the engine's ECU?

If the ECU is turning on the horn, its not happy with its inputs so you may have to dig into those to find the source...you just have to be able to see the whole string of inputs...

Hi Mark and Bob

My Techmate just had its software updated a couple months back.

The owner stated that the beeping was present most
of the time during his vacation and the boat was used frequently.

I have heard an occasional beep while running the boat on muffs.

I have communication between the Techmate and the motor and can read
real time data. I have also been able to retrieve fault codes from this motor in the past.

I cannot find any relevant hard or soft codes.

I’m thinking that V/P may be using the beeping to get the operator to look at the gauges in case a sensor sees an oil press. or a temp issue and that this beeping may just be a false alarm due to an issue with a switch/sensor or wiring issue.

Just a thought.

I've never heard of that application for the horn...but anything is possible.

If you can see the real time data stream, it shouldn't be hard to find the source....not saying that it won't be time consuming as there is a lot more data coming in with the newer ECUs...

Hi Mark

Thank You

I guess that’s what I’ll have to do.

If I find something that can benefit us forum members I will report back.

On a side note has anyone heard from Ricardo?

He has helped me out countless times.

I learned a lot from him.

I realize he is no longer on this forum and I won’t get into that.

He is getting on in years and I just hope he is ok.

Thanks Again

Jon:

Its the best I have to offer...the newer ECUs keep getting more complex...so, unfortunately, there's usually more branches to the debug tree....

Last I heard, our West Coast VP guy was still posting on the other forums he frequents.

Its a bit of a long shot but you might wanna check the wiring diagram for that engine...if the ECU triggers the horn by grounding it, it may be possible the horn wire is intermittently grounding....that would yield the horn sounding and the ECU not sensing anything wrong...
