4.3 Volvo Penta 1993 Carb problem?

I rebuilt carb, now it will accelerate on its own then decelerate and stall. I also changed fuel pump. Any ideas on a repair. If the carb float is stuck could this be the problem? Could be I did not insert float evenly. Before rebuilding it would start for s minute or so then stall.

Being a VP I'll assume it's a Holley 2bl carb

With it doing similar before the rebuild then the motor might have other issues.

Doing a bit different the carb settings might also need to be readjusted. Don't think it's the float level unless it's flooding. When motor stalls do you seeing dripping fuel down the throat of the carb?

Have you done a compression test and checked timing?

Thanks for your reply. I have not seen any gas drip and I have not done a compression check. What I noticed is the choke flaps stay wide open after the engine is running. Do you think this could be the problem? I will manually push in the flaps where they are slightly open and it will Idle, but it still will run rough. I have to continue to hold the flaps down or it automatically will open all the way. I s a 2 bl, volvo penta.

The choke should close to within 1/8 inch when throttle is moved forward the fist time.

Afterwards once warmed up it should be full open

Holding it partly closed means the motor is not getting enough fuel and needs adjustment to mixer, float level and may need further cleaning

Here is a good thread
