I'm 31 years old and I live in Utah. Unfortunately, Utah doesn't offer any kind of formal schooling or training to get into maritime mechanics. I have very minimal knowledge of maritime mechanics, but I want to make the career change and start. I have been working in law enforcement for the past 5 years; I'm married and have an 8-year-old. The few boat dealerships in my area have failed to return my emails or calls and seem to want somebody with prior experience. Does anybody have any kind of suggestions for me?
 
Maybe an in person visit?

Just be aware that this is the busy season so there be some continuing reluctance...

Boats are great but the work is usually seasonal...aircraft work is another option to look into..

Getting an A&P license will pay much better and higher demand

My nephew with A&P use to work for a contractor in Indy making good money. The company moved to Florida so he looked into Fedex which was on same site. He now works for Fedex making even more money, like $82 hour
