Bringing an engine out've long term lay-up

Hello All,
New to the site but looking fwd to getting smarter with your help. I am setting up a little 14 ft wooden skiff and found a nice $200 engine through a friend. 18 HP and my biggest concern is what to do, prior to attempting to start. My intentions are, w/p impeller, lower unit oil, plugs, ???. Should I prelube the cylinders prior to spinning it over? It also has a few wiring issues, but I think I can resolve them. I know it's an odd color, Purple and I couldn't find that option anywhere?? Lol...! Thanks in advance!

Here it is...

A little fogging oil in the spark plug holes and through the carb throat, then turning the engine by hand with the plugs removed is always a decent idea on an engine that has sat for a long time.

Thank you Kevin! I just didn't know where to start. I believe this is a 1969 Fastwin, and the gentleman said it had been layed up for at least 25v years. It shows very little use. Paint on the prop, power head, externally, etc... So I didn't want to create problems by getting it back to running. Have you ever seen a Purple one? I'm just curious as I wondered if it was some kind've of promotion. I looked at all the paint codes, and did not see that color option. It has a few wires which are not connected but I'm trying to figure those out. Again, thanks my friend!

Fogging oil is always a good idea. Tilt the motor up, and spray it while the piston is down to help get better coverage.

Like Kevin said above, down the carb also to get some lube on the bearings.
Probably smoke like mad when it starts but at least it will be lubricated.

Yes sir! I am hoping it comes back around. Looks too be a solid little engine and I've read good things about it. So we'll see here soon. I bought a 14 ft wooden skiff and I'm hoping this lil 18 will push it. Thank you, again

Electric start 18. Nice! Love the paint scheme. She should run in the low 20's on that skiff. She's a 1969, assuming she is original. Just hook up a 50/1 fuel mix, a pint to six gallons.TCW-3 oil, put her deep in a trash can or the lake, pull out the choke, turn the handle to start in neutral, and if she doesn't start in 7 pulls, start asking questions on this site. main thing if it starts, is she pumping water? Nothing bad will happen in 5 minutes of running.

Thank you sir!! When I saw this lil engine, I couldn't pass it up for $200. It shows now wear. The owner said it was his friends father's and it had been in their shop for the last 25+ years. It was covered in saw dust. Lol... Anyway thank you and I'll try and have it running here in the next few weeks. Looking fwd to seeing it hanging off of the back of that lil skiff. I really appreciate all the help from this y'all. You guys are awesome! Please excuse my excitement, but with this being my latest project, I'm over the top. I met the granddaughter of the man who built the boat, and she said he was, "an avid fisherman, sportsman, quail hunter, and wildlife photographer". He is Mr. William Sanchez (DDS) of St. Augustine FL. To pair it with this ole Evinrude Purple power pack, has got me excited. I can't thank you guys enough for helping me...! I really mean that!! Cheers to you all!! You guys are the best group of folks, I've ever met!

You're down here in Florida? I'm 30 miles south in Palm Coast, You bring her down to my shop and we will have her singing like a Water Turkey looking for a date! I have all the tools, I've got a thing for 18's.

This lil old skiff was built in 1957. The Dr. even built the trailer. I'm hoping this 69' Fastwin will put her back in action. Looking fwd to stretching her legs, again! Cheers to you all!

I will do that! I'm in Jacksonville, Fl and have to run to NC here in the next couple of weeks, but when I'm back, let's gather up. This rig is being put together for Crescent Lake!! I've been fishing it for the last 30 years. We had to hunt em up, but we got into some heifers last month!

Hey Rob,
When you're back from your trip, bring the engine down to my shop and we'll check everything out on this engine and I'll show you how to repair it. You will do the work, I'll show you how to do it. I have all the equipment to test everything on your engine.

Thank you Fitz! If you and your crew eat crawfish, I get them straight off've the docks in Louisiana, that are delivered to me the next day. One've my best friends has got me set up. I could do a boil and bring them down, and wouldn't mind it at all. Just a way to say thanks!

Lol, I do believe we can work something out! Only after she is repaired. You do the boil here, we got a good spot for these sort of things.

Hey Rob,
Lets put this project on the calendar, can I call you after lunch today or later this afternoon? Please let me know.
Thanks
