Chrysler 318 muffler modification question

1972 Chrysler 318. (Raw water system)

Just swapped out mufflers in an attempt to quiet motor. Still loud-just a different “tone”.

The old mufflers are in good shape.

Is it possible to “add” the old and new mufflers in line together? There is room to do it.

Is this done? Tired of loud exhaust. Thank you.

Usually not but maybe...as long as the pair doesn't cause too much restriction, you could do it...only way to be sure is to measure it..
