D6 with DPH-A shift cable replacement issues

I just purchased a 2007 Sealine SC38 with twin D6 310A-B driving DPH-A outdrives. I’ve had Engines and Outdrives Serviced completely. My mechanic wanted to replace both gear shift cables but failed due to lack of space internally. Claims that the Engines have to be moved 3 Inch’s forward to fiddle the cable thru??? Could that really be the case or is there a certain technic to get the cables thru ? Or could it just be the wrong part?
Any ideas on this would be highly appreciated.
Regards from Germany. Johnscott

I believe you have to remove exhaust components and/or turbo or whatever else is in the way
so you can straighten out the hose the cable passes through.

Forgot to mention, if you have access to the nut that holds the tube/hose the cable runs through (on the inside of the transom)
you may be able to un-thread the nut, straighten out the shift cable tube/hose enough to pass the shift cable though.
Then you will have to get that tube/hose re-installed and water tight again after the new shift cable is in place.
