Hey everyone, having a weird one with my 2001 Supra 22SSV launch.

So couple weeks ago I had what I thought was a hose blowing out bunch of water coming from the water pump going to the thermostat, and it would only do it in gear under load, so I couldn't just put the engine in neutral then rev it up to replicate the discrepancy, the boat had to be moving, and I'm not for certain, but I think the engine getting to normal operation temps has something to do with it, but the weird thing is I replaced this hose 2 weeks ago and it actually seemed to fix it and I was fine for the last 4 trips, but being that I was on my boat by myself and met friends out on their boats it was difficult to troubleshoot, we went for long boat ride from boat ramp by house to downtown Knoxville TN where our football stadium is at and I ran it over an hour with no issues to there then about 20 minutes back to the sandbar where we initially met up at and soon as I started pulling up to sandbar I got off a plane for a second then tried to get back on and I could tell it was doing it again because the boat wouldn't plane out like it should, I'm not sure if it was because it was filling with water to fast and had too much weight, or if blowing out that much water was causing decrease in power for some reason, I didn't feel like it had that much water in it being that I caught it early, and because I've had 2400 pounds of ballast on the boat before and still was able to plane out, so new hose was fine for the last 4 trips out and ran it pretty hard going long distance and I did notice half way going up the engine got a tad bit warmer than it normally does around 165-167 from normal operating range of 160, but soon as we got closer to downtown the water was significantly colder and it cooled back down pretty quick. So I'm wondering if me replacing the hose even had an effect or it was just a fluke that it was fine for the last 4 trips out. The only maintenence I did prior was changing the oil, but I had took it out couple times even after doing that and I really doubt there's any relevance there, but figured it mention it anyways. So what would cause the it to blow out bunch of water that looks like it's coming from the hose on the pump side, the pump is lower than the thermostat that sits on top so i know it's coming from that general area (hard to tell exactly where it's coming from because it's a lot of water coming out fast plus the boat is moving and me being by myself I'm quickly taking a glance and jumping back to the wheel and coming out of gear because I didn't want to risk any of that water splashing into my throttle body.) I confirmed the hose is tight and seated well with hose clamps, but before I just go assuming it's the pump, because I thought it was weird that replacing the hose seemed to fix it temporarily, do you guys think it could be the thermostat? Maybe it's getting stuck and causing all that water pressure having to go somewhere so it's squeezing out between the hose and the clamp? And maybe because the thermostat is just starting to go bad that it just perhaps worked the last 4 times I went out? Maybe it doesn't work like I thought it did. I thought it opened up when the boat gets to temp, and I always let me boat get to temp before even pulling it off the trailer. That's how I've always winterized my boat too I would run water through it till it got to temp then soon as it got there I'd swap the sump pump that was pushing water to my boat into a bucket of antifreeze and let it suck up all the antifreezen confirm it's coming out of the exhaust with no water and killed it just before it sucked up all the antifreeze so it wouldn't go dry and just blowout all the antifreeze i just put in. Anyways so if that's not how the thermostat works then maybe I'm mistaken, but I feel like there's something going on there that has to do with the engine being hot and not just warmed up but running hard for a good minute, either the water pump has a micro crack and is expanding under these temps and squeezing out the water under high load when the boat is in gear or the thermostat isn't opening up or something and the water has no where to go but to force it's way out by the clamps. I mean maybe it's the new hose again, but I feel like I have it on there really well. I'll definitely quadruple check it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also apologies for some of the rambling. I tend to do that from time to time lol. I attached two screenshots, one of the original hose before I replaced it, and the other with the hose I replaced it with. Now the new hose as you can see is slightly bigger than the original it's longer between the bends and little bit longer at the bends themselves, but it seemed to fit alright I didn't have to make any hard bends on it where it was collapsed or anything like that it just stuck further out and was against the fuel rail a little bit at the bottom. I don't think that's relevant in anyway either, but thought it give you professionals an idea with what I'm working with here, and like I said I can't rev it up in neutral to mimic the discrepancy only does under load between 3000 and 3500 RPMs while in gear, right where I'm starting to plane out the boat. Any tips, ideas, things to try/troubleshoot would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,

Cameron G.

We went for long boat ride from the boat ramp by house in my home town Farragut to downtown Knoxville TN where our football stadium is at and I ran it over an hour with no issues to there then after eating at a restaurant for little over an hour, started the boat back up and took another boat ride, about 20 minutes back to the sandbar where we initially met up at and soon as I started pulling up to sandbar I got off a plane for a second to get my fenders out, then tried to get back on a plane and I could tell it was doing it again because the boat wouldn't plane out like it should, I'm not sure if it was because it was filling with water to fast and had too much weight, or if blowing out that much water that was causing decrease in power for some reason, I didn't feel like it had that much water in it being that I caught it early, and because I've had 2400 pounds of ballast on the boat before and still was able to plane out, I probably could have planed out if I really got on it, but like I said I could tell their was an issue because it was struggling, so the new hose was fine for the last 4 trips out and I ran it pretty hard going long distance and I did notice half way going up the engine did get a tad bit warmer than it normally does around 165-167°F from normal operating range of 160°F, but soon as we got closer to downtown the water was significantly colder and it cooled back down pretty quick. So I'm wondering if me replacing the hose even had an effect or if it was just a fluke that it was fine for the last 4 trips out and the problem was still there it just didn't do it. I will say this was the longest boat ride I had taken since replacing it the others were probably 15 minutes out and 15 minutes back. The only maintenence I did prior was changing the oil, but I had taken it out couple times even after doing that and I really doubt there's any relevance there, but figured I mention it anyways. I mean maybe it's the new hose again, but I feel like I have it on there really well. I'll definitely quadruple check it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I should of mentioned I can high idol cruise the boat no problem like right at the RPM's from where it would go from crusing and planing out soon as I pass that threshold of it crusing to a plane that's when it starts doing it. I maybe try and take my dad out with me sometime this week and try and see if it does if when the engine is cold and also try to exactly tell where it's coming from. Any tips, ideas, things to try/troubleshoot would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Sorry all, for some reason the post didn't take my other photo of the original hose itself from the pump to the thermostat, and it wouldn't let me do it from my phone at all after trying to repost it multiple times, so reposting from my laptop. I'll repost the other image too, since I figured out how to actually include it in the body of the forums. I had to crop it quite a bit to get it to work with what this forum page would allow. I had to make the image less than a megabyte to work... smh.

Yer post is about impossible to read, with my ole eyes,....

Agree
Noticed your post but it has so many long run on sentences, even sitting down with a six pack would have me ignor it before even starting

What are the bullet points, short and sweet your trying to fix?
