Hi Guys:

I have a 1970 60 ESLD. The top crank case bearing is starting to make some noise. I thought it may have been an unbalanced flywheel, but the Marina said it was a top crank bearing going. I'll need to open the motor to replace a $70 part.

My question is: While I have it split, should I do a full check on the gutts? It has good compression. One Marina said 125 on all three holes and another Marina said 130 on all three. Either way I think its ok. Should the phase "If it is not broken don't fix it" apply here? or should I hone out the hole and put new rings in her? What else should I change out if I am this deep. Again the motor runs good except for the bearing. Any input?

Thanks,

not a bad idea to look at the cyl walls, check for wear, if good , hone and replace rings only if pistons are not scored. pull your rod bearings and check for bluing, if so replace. The motor is not young and you are this close, its time to take a look around. Chances are she would need rings anyway.
