Lower onit installation

1996 mercury 115 2 stroke. I'm replacing the lower unit and both the upper & lower have an alignment pin on the front??? It looks like one has to be removed... which one should I remove and how to? Thanks, Bill

Yes, to remove one of the pins just a little heat or vice grips or both and it will come out, it's a very light tap fit.
