Hi I have a mercury 9.8 outboa

Hi I have a mercury 9.8 outboard serial# 2622665.
I believe its a 1969 can anybody confirm this for me?

69 is probably a good guess al

69 is probably a good guess although most us models in 69 start with a 25 but 1970 starts with 27. Your serial no. doesn't show up. Is the model a S&L?

"Andre, there are a couple of special tools that certainly make the job easier.

The first thing you want is a manual. If you are looking at removing the gears from the case you don't want to destroy anything by doing it incorrectly.

You state that the case is in bad shape (?) unless it cracked or broken allowing gear oil to escape, I would leave it assembled and deal with the cosmetic issues (if that's all they are)...."
