Need to find the year model of my Johnson 20HP i cant seam to find a model number anywhere but i have numbers all over the engine these include.

384279 D2
318505 D2
319764

The motor and leg is completely white

Then there is a number A0114111 and has a big M above the number in the silver insert (maybe company logo) letters and numbers are stamped in a silver plate that is indented. on the right side of motor.. the motor is all white If somoen can give me a photo or a link to a photo exactly where to find the model stamped i would be appreciative.

I need to know this as i have only 2 shear pins left and need to find some more on the internet. I have a HONDA shear pin 58131-881-000 that im going to have to adapt as it just does not fit a little buff will make it fit i guess.

on the transom bracket, there should be an ID plate with a model lettering and a serial number.the letters may look like :AJ20REID,which is made in Australia,Johnson,20HP,Rope start[say],EI,is the year[say],INTRODUCES,where I=1,N=2,T=3,R=4,O=5,D=6,U=7,C=8,E=9,S=0,so EI=91,as an example

No ned mod number or year, all the same:

Yeah i have looked all over the Transom bracket just not sure as im thinking it has warn off maybe. If anyone has a photo where it would located would be handy .

Thankyou for the reply just need to find a Dealer in Australia :). One other question how floppy should the shear pin be against the PROP seats (where the shear pin drives the prop) as when i put the pin in i have about 1 1/2 mm movement on one side. Im thinking this is makeing me shear the pins as its putting unnecessary stress on them.

The worst you can do is to use a too small pin that wiggles in the prop-shaft.
The Johnson pin is in inches, most Japanese pins are mm.
In 'worst' case, get a pin 'too big', then drill up the hole in shaft to perfect fit!!
However any Aussie Johnson/Evinrude dealer should be able to get the 'original' ones.

PS:
Even if you find a Sierra Marine dealer they have them as well.

it does not wiggle in the motor shaft it has a bit of play before it takes up the load of the motor where the pin sits in the prop seats...

Are you talking about the internal 'play' between clutch-dog and gears, or do you have play between pin and groove in prop?
If play in the prop (bushing) groove, take it to a machine shop, or make a new groove yourself.

I have play between pin and groove in prop. In which case if i made the hole bigger in the drive arm i could put a bigger pin in. I guess the question im asking should the PIN take up all the room in the prop groove?

Not necessarily, but you should be able to get it deep enough in the groove to eliminate play. Sometimes just a fiber/nylon washer between prop and nut may do the trick. If groove is 'worn' you may even use brass soldering and 'refill', but be careful with heat not to burn the rubber bushing.

There is no rubber bushing in this prop. i think i will just go to a bit bigger pin the pins i have may not be the right pins as he gave them to me when i bought the boat. I have found a honda part in my cupboard that may do the job its 58131-881-000 it says its 5mm so 3/16 is 5 mm i think so it should work it just looks a little bigger in diameter may be like .1 or .2 of a mm.. It looks stainless also the pin i have does not look stainless not sure what metal it is who knows where he got it from.

I belive the 307949 are stainless so should do the same job
