Anybody bored? So, my original post was about a '95 Johnson with no spark. I researched all the threads and big "G". I changed the stator, after checking the neutral and cutoff switches. The stator had melted to the point that the top of the motor was full of the black goo. On day one tried to start motor, no start. Day two, motor cranked and started after 15 seconds, ran fine. I believed it was vapor locked or flooded on day one. Day 3 ordered rectifier/regulator due to threads about imminent fire danger on older components. Day 5 motor cranked and started fine after about 20 seconds. (I just wanted to verify that the issue had been resolved). Day 12 rectifier arrived. Next day installed rectifier. No start, no spark. Son-of a mother...... Installed old rectifier, no start, reinstalled new rectifier, put cover back on went to work on something else. I recently quit drinking and this ain't helping a darn bit. I believe this motor has been partly rebuilt with newer parts off a '99 due to a label that states that this is a '99 model, on a '95 boat with a '95 cowl and part numbers that match a '95 motor. No bracket label, I did find freeze plug stamp, but it is right next to the '99 label. Today I am cleaning the key switch with de-oxit 5 which I use to clean stereo equipment that I dabble with. I am not an electrician or technician and struggle immensely with electrical issues. God gave me a mechanical brain, and I must have turned my head when he handed out the electrical section. I have a new key switch here that I am trying to figure out how to wire. Someone here gave me a schematic which I printed.
So, what do I check/replace next? I read that the power pack fails all at once and not intermittently. I do have the OIS 2000 system and cleaned the optic pick-ups when I replaced the stator. I have two boats, misery loves company. I just sold the third boat that I had. All three had a different motor, so I could not compare apples to apples. I am frustrated and appreciate you taking the time to read all this and obviously am grateful for any advice.
