I purchased a 1987 Starfire New Yorker 21' 5" - My Throttle sometimes gets locked in the straight up position - The button at the bottom is to be pushed in to allow the handle to move. I have been all over the internet looking for a new Throttle Handle w/Tilt & Trim that is compatible for my '87 Starfire. I just want something that will do the job, but do not want to break the bank. My other question is: When I find what will work will it just plug into my unit. As you can tell I am not a mechanic. Help! Help! Help!

Yes, what happens is the button at the bottom of the handle that I am supposed to press in sometimes won't go in. Therefore, I can't prime the engine to start. I don't want to shoot either into the carb every time I have to start the boat. Now, I actually leave the handle about 3/4 from the top and it starts right up. If I can find a new remote-control lever with trim & tilt that will fit my boat and not break the bank I am ready to do so. Do I just plug in the new wires to my old system and that's it? Thanks for all your help in this matter.

I doubt the issue is the lever - more likely the remote control box the lever controls.

Depressing the throttle only button disengages the shift cable. If the button won't depress, the remote control box needs to be serviced or replaced.
