VP 290 idle but no power.

I have a 1978 Skipjack with a Volvo Penta 290. it has a Roschester Quad.Carb. It was in storage for about 6 months. Running well before storage. It now will idle and rev up to around 3000 RPM. When in gear I only get 1200 RPM. If I push throttle any more it hesitates and dies. I hooked alt. fuel supply but no help. Carb. was rebuilt a couple years back and outside in clean condition. I removed carb. and drained all fuel/water that might be in float chamber. I searched for vacuum leaks and seems fine.Any ideas will help.

I have not looked at timing advance yet. It had an aftermarket electronic ign. installed about 10 years ago, so no points. I will look at that next. I think the best way will be to see if distributor rotor is free to pivot, then use a timing light. Thank you.

Thanks for advice. I don`t think distributor weights should look like this. I cleaned/lubed and now freely pivot. Will take to water soon to test out.

I have cleaned up Distributor parts and had same issue. Cleaned out float bowl and needle valves/seats. Now running good. Checked advance with light and working. Thanks for help. Much appreciated .

There are several makers of aerosol spray cans of 'corrosion guard'....you can apply it a couple times a year and it will reduce what you found under the rotor...
