What year is this Mercury 9.9?

I bought an old boat that has a 9.9 Mercury outboard. I cannot find a SN on it. There is a round aluminum cap about the size of a quarter with this stamped into it 0G034088 with a raised M below the stamped numbers. Can someone tell me if this is the SN? I've searched with no results.
