Year of 50 hp Mercury outboard

I have a similar outboard with a similar serial number that I got with a recent boat purchase.
Wanted to know if this was a good investment to get it running.
Mercury 500 thunderbolt 50hp serial # A130682
The lower unit decal is a different color than the powerhead. The lower is orange & white, while the upper is blue & white. Could a different year lower be mounted to to a different year upper? This engine has a rope starter, cable operated steering. Provisions for a starter but lacking the ring gear. the starter has round mount on top but the bottom has two threaded holes. I will post photos. 4 cylinder, 2-stroke.

Those decals were only used in 84 / 85 model years.---Yours was marketed in 85 .----For parts a Mercury dealer would use the serial #.-----If you are shopping online for parts your results may vary.
 
I would say that having the motor and pump inside the boat is BRILLIANT and I would not consider that to be " old " at all.-----Modern ( factory $$ saving ) thinking has put the motor and hydraulics exposed to water.-----This often leads to grief for the owner should repairs be needed on corroded parts.

How do you tell it was marketed in 1985? I’m dumb when it comes to outboard motors lol

I was told late 80s. The guy he got it from that redone a lot of stuff on the motor told him it was an 89 but I kinda knew right off. It wasn’t an 89. But I wasn’t being smart when I ask you that. I was really wanting to know because I have zero clue about how to tell the year with the serial number. That’s why I ask. How can you tell the serial number
 
Sorry mate.---As clearly stated these decals were only used in 1984 and 1985.-----I have been doing this for a long time.---And no it is not determined by any numbers in the serial #
