1988 FORCE 50 507X8C Junk?

The old timer who owns the local boat repair shop tells me that these motors are junk and have lots of problems. He makes it sound like this a well known thing. He also says the other Force motors are fine.

This is the one and only boat and motor I've owned, so I have no experience with anything else.

Is it well known that these Force 50's are junk? What's the general consensus among boat guys?

The Force 50 is the same as a Chrysler 50 it's a good running motor and can last a very long time if it's taken care of.
The bad rap they get is not deserved.
It can last a long time if you take care of it.
2-3 years no use??? The worst thing is not using any motor.
