1964 Johnson 9.5 mq-10 Exhaust housing to impeller spacer

I pulled my lower unit apart and the Exhaust housing to impeller spacer fell out when I separated the housings and I can't figure out where it belongs. I would appreciate the help if you could instruct me where it goes and how to get back in place. Thanks

Long shaft motor ?-----Sorry -I think this spacer only fits one way.----Smaller end into the pump housing?

that would mean that the drive shaft would have to go through the middle of spacer? The hole in the end of spacer is too small it wont fit

I can not remember ever seeing that part on a short shaft 9.5 HP model.

lower unit measured 16 inches long

I just bought the damn thing got it home ran it and the lower unit grease had a lot of water in it and a lot of line behind the prop.

mq-10s I took that it was a short shaft because of the s in MQ-10s

That is not the way it works.-----MQL is the long shaft model.

Many motors in those days left factory as a short shaft.----It was easy to convert them to long shaft.-----I can not recall ever seeing that part on a 9.5 model.----And I have worked on more than 1 ----Have about 10 of them for parts.

On 60 year old motors I always suggest a complete evaluation before spending any beer tokens on them.
