Low compression

I have a 2023 Mercury 4hp 2 stroke, I bought the engine stuck and I was able to release it by pouring oil into the cylinder but the compression is only 75 psi. I tried to start it and it emits a very strong backfire from the exhaust, it's hard to start but when the engine starts it is very anemic and does not rev up straight away Turns off, is the problem with the bearings? Or can something else be checked before the engine needs to be disassembled? Thanks a lot

My owner's/service manuals for my 75-125 HP engines states that anything below 120 PSI is curtains. I would think that since we are talking compression pressures, the HP area would be a moot point....time to re-ring.
