 No kill switch on boat.So I am wiring into the control box, http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/parts/2128_340.cfm ,this one. I'm using this control box 'cause it's got tilt/trim switch on it and I hope to put tilt/trim on my beautiful Merc800 sometime before my back,or worse,my ould ticker gives out.
Which two wires do I connect to the kill switch, http://www.maxrules.com/oldmercs/Wiring/1966ona/38.jpg ,I was opting for black and orange,D+E. What's confusing me is that orange goes to the plug but there is no through orange,or any other colour for that matter, on the internal harness, from the plug to switch box.It shows a tan wire on the MercControl, yes I do have this one,but again it goes to a dead end
I was going to run a wire from the mercury tilt to the kill switch and ground it under the dash, but I thought this would be neater.
All help to keep me from frying a very expensive switch box is very much appreciated.Thank you.

As long as you can put a ground on the yellow wire your kill switch will work. And like you mentioned I suspect you will have to run the wire to where you want to mount the kill switch. Tan wires normally go to the alarm horn. I don't remember the 800 having a heat sensor on the head so maybe you could use that to extend the yellow. Just a thought.

Thank you ibnfshn,I was putting the killwire to the wrong wire.So this is what I'm going to do,one wire from yellow in control box to one side of killswitch and the other side of killswitch to ground.:D Maybe I'll get adventurous and put an extra pin for the orange wire coming through into the internal harness and run it on up to the switch box.Why take the easy way, eh :D.Thanks again.Easy seeing I never learned to hot wire a car:D
There isn't a temp sensor on the block, but there is a brass plug for one if I ever decide to put one in.
