Mercury 90 HP Elpto 2 Stroke

Hello

I am new boat owner with a question that I have googled quite a bit without any success.

I have a Mercury 2 stroke 90 HP Elpto from 2004 that after a short while sounds with a steady beep / alarm. According to the manual this should be overheating but I have a little trouble believing it

- When I put my hand the engine block, it is not warmer than it allows me to put my hand on it and it is only lukewarm

- New Impeller for the 2017 season and

- A tell tale that you can see by 15 cm below the water surface has little experience but judges it as a strong beam.

The container for oil is just over 2/3 full.

When I slow down the boat and put it in neutral, the alarm stops after a few seconds and I can move on, after a few minutes then it can sound again, all the time with temperature on the engine that allows you to put your hand on it (on the engine block not the cover ) without feeling any discomfort.

I am happy to receive your thoughts about

- I can run with it because it does not get hotter than I feel any direct heat on the engine block

- Has someone encountered the same problem and how did you solve this

I am also wondering if I should disconnect the sensor for low oil and see if it stops sounding then (is it possibly someone who has a diagram of the electrics on a 2004) If this did not help then I am thinking of changing the thermostat and/or the heat sensor

Very grateful for your thoughts !!

Merc has heat, oil, and over rev - I think your disconnecting of the sensors is a good start.
Don't understand your comment on the tell tale.

If,and this is the way I read your statement, "A tell tale that you can see by 15 cm below the water surface", the tell tale is below the surface, your outboard is too big and heavy for the boat or is too low on the transom

Sorry for the confusion english is not my native language.

What I ment is that the tell tale shoots down 15 cm below surface from its location appr 30 - 40 cm above surface which to me indicate a well functioning water flow? Hope this makes more sense

Does the 2004 also have an alarm for over rev? I have only read that it has an alarm for oil and heat. Can I disconnect that sensor also to rule out which alarm that goes off. Do you possibly have some guidance to where i can find that sensor
thanks!
