Hello,

First time poster and first time boat owner.

I’ve got a Mercury 650 65 HP thunderbolt ignition 4 cylinder 2 stroke electric start and haven’t been able to find a single thing with its serial number no matter where I’ve look. Motor is original to boat. S/N: 2717558

It’s at for many years and needs a service before I try and run it. Does anyone know if it’s carby or injection and does anyone know what it’s stator charge voltage meant to be?

Thanks for reading and helping a first timer

That would be a 1969 model.----No computers in 1969 !-------No such thing as fuel injection at that time.------I suggest you do some reading ( manual ) before turning the key to try and start this fine motor.----Sorry to be blunt here.

Racerone thank you for your response, nothing wrong with being blunt I prefer it. I’m a 2nd year automotive apprentice so whilst I know about cars I know nothing of boats lol. It’s been sitting in a shed for a few years before I got it and never touched salt water, being 2 stroke I’m not gunna try to start it till I service it and the fuel lines and carbys coz I know **** can build up and probably is. Last night I pulled the fuel, pulled the spark plugs and cranked it to make sure it’ll crank and it does. Cranked it for 1 second so it shouldn’t have done any damage.

Apart from what I’ve already said I’m going to do before running it is there anything I have missed and should do as well besides the fuel system and impeller/water pump?

I got this for $500 as it was my stepfathers brothers boat and he no longer used it, whilst I don’t mind spending some money I am trying to not sink shitloads into at this point due to lack of funds.

Also how’d you know it’s 1969 year? Just curious

Also there is mechanical fuel injection in case you didn’t know which is why I asked. Just don’t know how far back it dates

And if anyone has any further suggestions it’d be greatly appreciated
