Can you find trim pump assembly?
If so can you find the two hydraulic lines that go into trim pump?
If so, loosen a little (do not remove) so some fluid leaks out. Let about a table spoon worth drip out.
Now retry the down trim button.
my suggestion is to get a Mercruiser wiring diagram for your model and look at the section for the trim system. It is not a complicated system, there is the trim switch and its wiring, and 2 relays that are near the trim pump, that use a signal from the trim switch to turn on the high amp circuit controlled by the relay to run the electric portion of the trim pump.
What can happen is that wiring inside the remote control lever for the trim switch can break or, the contacts on the relays can corrode, and them one or more function stops working. I had that problem with mine and it was caused by water dripping on one of the trim relay terminals, easily fixed by removing the wire and cleaning up the terminals, then coating with marine grease.

Thanks, I am still learning and troubleshootingIt's unusual, but not unheard of, for the solenoid itself to go bad. I would sooner suspect a dirty or loose connection on those before buying new solenoids. Try cleaning with a small stainless steel wire brush (the kind that look like a toothbrush) all the connections and retighten. If it still balks, yeh get a new solenoid. While you're at it, I highly recommend inspecting the filters inside the reservoir. The reservoir is held on with a long screw up through the bottom.
I would use a test light or multimeter to check for output from the relays before anything else- without doing that, you can't know if the relay is at fault, or the pump motor. Thanks, I am still learning and troubleshooting
