EVINRUDE SHEAR PINS

I have a 1982 EVINRUDE 70hp model E70ELCNB for which I am trying to locate spare shear pins. The diagrams I have seen do not even show a shear pin. Is it possible this model does not use such pin and if not, does anyone know what other break-away system there may be for the prop?

That engine, and pretty much any OMC engine over 50 hp since 1968 does not have a shear pin. Your engine has a pressed in rubber hub between the propeller shaft core and the inner hub of the propeller that is designed break loose and slip when you hit something. It protects the gear train and engine crankshaft from damage. If the hub slips from hitting something it will need to be repaired by repair shop that can press in the correct rubber hub with the correct parts and tooling.

Ha, just a way to cost more money! However, higher horsepower suggests the shear pin is not the way to go. If you are in danger of striking an object, I might suggest aluminum or composition prop, over stainless. It's easier on powerhead, flywheel key, and drive gears and shaft. I just replaced a sheared off drive shaft on a 15 hp 2 stroke. Shoulda seen the prop....ouch.

You can always fix the prop 🥸🥸

If I was on a fishing trip in the " middle of nowhere "-----I think I would be happy to find a blacksmith that could do that repair.----Fishing is tops on the agenda.----Put a new prop on it later.----Perhaps find 1 or 2 in the shed at home.

Ha. Good thoughts. I wouldn't want to take credit for that fine work, done in the bush. He!! You get back to camp with a prop like that and the fish taste really good....fire feels extra warm.
