In the photos does anyone know what that black thing is? It connects to the middle on the block.

It’s a 1975 mercury 65hp 4 cylinder 650 thunderbolt redband

Can I remove with without causing any issues? Wires corroded pretty bad

The the serial number says different. That’s what the tech who did my HIN number said
