Help making sense of DEC engine wiring please

Hi,
I recently had to replace my engine due to a failure while on a trip and frankly I dont think the dealer really understood Yamahas wiring options.
I got a F150 DEC model outboard installed, the goal was to have N2k output to my network. What they seemed to have installed is a series of y harnesses and a single gauge (the round gauge with square digital tac display). They told me they couldn’t get n2k working and it’s not clear to me they understood the Dec motor wiring. Granted I’m thankful to be back out fishing but hopeful to order the parts to do this right once home.

2 questions.
Are there significant reasons to go with command link plus over command link, as I understand it my gauge is command link only so would go away if I went to command link plus. I might be wrong. Is the CL5 better than an n2k display? Advantages to me would be extra trouble shooting info etc. but my real goal is to get this onto n2k so I can have my mfd display fuel range and use info. If there any difference in what is output from a command link versus command link n2k link?

Second question is what’s the best way to get the n2k data out? It seems that the DEC motor is native j1939 so does that mean you actually can’t use the command link n2k cable?

Some advice would be greatly appreciated, I’d love to move to a hub as the Ys feel messy and if possible keep my gauge plus have solid n2k output. Part numbers would be especially appreciated so I can have them waiting when I get home.

Thank you in advance

All new controls with the new motor or were older controls reused?

Reason why I ask is that in some cases Command Link has gone away. Replaced by Command Link Plus only.

It’s all new controls, the slim chrome and black throttle with auto trim button, helm master EX I think it’s called.

I tried to upload a photo as im now not sure which I have but it’s failing, my control looks like the helmmaster and has power on the right, start/stop in the middle, and station, neutral hold and trim assist on the left. It also has the trim and below that speed toggles on the lever.

In early DEC motors the Command Link connector was part of the control box. Along came Command Link Plus and a different connector was added. Along came a later control box and the Command Link connector was done away with.

See if your control box has the connectors. How many? One or two? One four pin and one six pin if there are two.

shell station near me hours

Looking at my controls the throttle has 6x9-48A01-11 on it so I think it's a Command Link Plus one? It has one larger grey plug and one smaller black plug, the grey has 10 wires and the black has 6 I believe. I dont see other connectors. There is no box other than the one that I believe the ending connects to with two large plugs with 6X6-51 written on it.

Doing a bit more research it sounds like it's actually a 6Y8 binnacle which explains why it works with the 6Y8 gauge. Given that what is the best way to get N2K data, the installer said they tried to use some cable they had in stock but it didnt work when they did the install. There appear to be two N2K dongles available, one is the gateway which I know you need if you are on command link plus but the other is just a cable. Given that 6Y8 is native N2K versus J1939 on command link plus (thats my understanding), can I just use the cheaper cable or is there something about the DEC engine that wont broadcast even on a 6Y8 network without the more expensive gateway?
Appreciate any advice.
