Mercruiser 3.0 EFI in 1996 boat

I’ve got a 2010 Mercruiser 3.0 EFI sitting on the shelf completely dressed with some of the wiring and outdrive, I recently bought a 1996 crownline 3.0 Carb and was wondering what all is needed to drop the newer Fuel injected motor in the old boat

Get the proper Mercruiser sevice manual. It will have the schematics and parts/ items for the engine.

Most marine engines are "moduler" in design.

Disconnect power, fuel, shift cables, and incoming water ans engine can be removed.

Not sure that the amount of posts for questions and answers is needed.
The service manual will have 99% of the info needed

I don’t have a serial number handy it’s an EFI 3.0 going in a 1996 boat I’ve replaced a few motors and all I can see is I need a 10 pin-14 pin adapter but I didn’t know if I was missing anything

I’ve never done a carb to EFI conversion, I’ve replaced 3.0’s and 4.3’s in multiple boats and the 3.0 motor is drop in ready and all that was removed was battery cables, fuel line, and motor mounts and the engine plug. Is all I need to make the newer 3.0 the 10-14 pin plug or is there something I’m missing at the helm of a newer boat

My issue is I'm not 100% sure that your MPI is a EC (CAT exhaust) motor or not. I believe the only 3.0 MPI's were EC motors so I'll just go with it is unless identified otherwise. The EC motors have 6 different service manuals

The motor should have a 10 pin CAN connector which provides info to SmartCraft, if not running SC cable the connector will need a termination resistor.

Yours being full package, you should be able to drop it

I don’t believe the boat it came out of had a smartcraft gauge worst case I have all gauges and cables out of that boat was just looking to get on the water this weekend and didn’t know if there was more I needed to order

Wish I had the manual but this is one I don't have
Unless another has an idea suggest contacting Merc (920) 929-5200 tech support tomorrow.

It most likely will hook up and go, but have seen several go from carb to MPI yes, but carb to MPI EC not yet. There are just more sensors and don't have enough knowledge base for exacts.

What do you mean clean power connections?
Special cable which runs from the Bat direct to PCM connections on the motor

I have the Verado and 6.2 EC and both list clean power cables. This is Verado
