ive just purchased a boat, the motor controls are back to front ( forward is reverse) and while at high rpm going forward the engine bounces every 5-10 seconds pointing to a worn clutchdog/forward gear, but could the bouncing issue be also caused by the controls been back to front? thanks
i have a video of the engine bouncing while going forward but can not upload here, the engine does not bounce etc while revving up in neutral

I can not see your motor.----Cables hooked up correctly?----Post some pictures.
unfortunately i only have a video at the moment of the bouncing action, i will take plenty of photos next weekend when im with the boat, i think the cables are hooked up correctly i will check that too next weekend.

Just make a link to video, & post the link. There are numerous sites that you can make/store the video on.
YouTube is one, just publish it as “public”, so anyone with the link can view it.

the last owner changed the water pump impeller, maybe he reinstalled the lower unit and did not seat the shifter shaft correctly, if i split the lower would it be easy for me to identify if thats the case?
