If it is an OMC built motor , the power head needs to come off.----Then shift rod is disconnected.----Also allows for inspection of the mechanical seal at top of driveshaft.

Here is a service manual for your motor. It’s a large document scroll down to page F., there you will find your motor, cross-referenced to a Gale.(5S12), it shows your motor as being 1956.
Chapter 6 is cooling pg 6-10 is your motor.
Eventually scrolling through it you may find quite a lot of useful information

Bondo… am I missing something? It’s a little 5 hp. Is the sterndrive form the place to go?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe his motor is cross-reference to a little Gale 5 hp

The carburetor is a OMC carb. if that tells anything.

And its a direct drive. No shift lever, no reverse. Pull start and go.

Once you have five or six posts, you can attach a picture. The photo must be less than 1 MB

Remove the prop.-----Look for a water pump there.
