I definitely have some options on the elbow.
Thank you to everyone here. I look forward to more of this collaboration.
Again, I wish it was warm all year and/or had a closed coolant system so I could get out during warm winter days.
Agreed with everything above. Thanks again for the info. I can measure the threads and other geometry for the elbow and will post the results.
One reason I asked about the part now is to have everything ready for the maintenance so I don't have to start and stop but it looks like I will have...
Great feedback once again.
I look forward to discussing flushing options that don't require as much access. Can you pump the antifreeze thru the earmuffs and get a thorough flush without removing the drain plugs?
I will post some pictures to illustrate how I get access to the engine. I agree...
Thanks for the replies. I will take the cover off of the engine compartment when we have a warm spell and get measurements. Removing the cover is the hardest part. If I ever get another boat it might be an outboard or jet boat instead of a stern drive due to the work involved in getting to the...
Thank you everyone for all of the help so far with my boat. The specifications including serial numbers are at the bottom of the text in this email. My questions relate to cooling hoses, thermostat, and hose connections I removed for winter maintenance and flushing- I wish I could keep the boat...
I will try to calibrate the OEM sensor today. So I should zero the dial on the dashboard by rotating the sensor at the down position of the outdrive, correct?
Thanks Mark. I think i am going with that position for my down reference. I will set the two switches now. I may have some questions on the one on the starboard side that gives feedback to my dashboard gage.
Thanks everyone for the input. I was up to 39 mph at 3,900 RPM last weekend. We were...
I attached pictures of the drive when it stops. I don't see a stop pin that is stopping the rotation. Is the stop pin reference inaccurate? Is the cylinder bottomed at this location in the pictures? This is for the down maximum, not the UP maximum for the limit on the port side.
Great explanation. Thank you for the quick reply. I have a question about the maximum down position.
The manual refers to a stop pin at the maximum down position- "Be sure the drive trim is fully IN and it is resting against the stop pin."
Where is a stop pin? I think my cylinders are bottomed...
I have a 1993 Chaparral 180 SL Limited with a Mercruiser 3.0, Alpha 1, Generation 2 power train. This power train includes XD hydraulic cylinders for the Power Trim.
My SELOC manual gives a maximum UP/OUT cylinder dimension of 20.750 inches (520 mm) as illustrated in the attached image from...
Thanks for the quick reply. I typed in impeller versus water pump and that is probably why I could not find it.
I will get the full kit; I plan on getting into winter when I probably won't use the boat for a couple of months so I can take my time and get into detail.
Do the two alignment pins...
Thank you everyone for the input and help.
Per some advice from Makomark, Sandkicker, and others I want to do a pre-emptive impeller service.
Does anyone have a part number I can use to order the kit? Specs from my engine tag are below and I attached a picture in PDF of the tag on the engine...
