Alpha One Gen One Shift Cable Binding

So with the drive off it cycled through R/N/F ok? Its only about 90 degree turn on the drive shift shaft to go through all three. I think you need to pull the drive and make sure drive is shift ok by it self - locks both CCW and CW depending on gear, and see if shifter moves the rod and...

Alpha One Gen One Shift Cable Binding

Bet the lower wasn’t in fully fwd when you put the two halves together. Been there done that. Also are you using OEM water pumps ? In my experience on a gen 1 the OEM lasted 2 x even the good aftermarket’s like Sierra

    MerCruiser 4.3 temperature alarm

get a temp gun and shoot the engine. My 160 stat engine runs 170 give or take no matter what Im doing. You can also takje the hose off the thermostat housing that bring water up from the drive, you should get 3-4 qts in 15 seconds at 1000 rpm or so. As others mentioned drive lube, oil pressure...

4.3L mercruiser - lower unit ratio change- having issues …. please help

you need to go down in pitch 2" to cover gear ratio change. I would keep the ratio and get a 21" with more bite than the three blade you tried. Was it a basic aluminum prop? Might try a 21" 4 blade like a rev 4. that is what I run and with out the exhaust plugs open some to allow some slip its...

I used a vacuum extractor (Mityvac or similar) to suck out the fuel tank of my classic car. Do you know the gas is bad or have you not looked at it yet? I have had older gas that was still ok.

    Water in Oil

good you drain . I boat in upstate NY (finger lakes). Im always amazed how many folks up there just run the cheapest AF through a bucket and muffs... pressure test and if it fails pull the thermostat and look under there before you get worried. If raw water it isn't uncommon long term for the...

    Water in Oil

I would do the pressure test of the block /heads and intake to vet if its cracked. If you are raw water cooled could be rotted out under the thermostat or intake gaskets leaking around water port as well. If it is coming out the dipstick that means you are adding a lot of water to the crank case...

Are my props causing all my problems?

i would blame the vibrations on the props, but the rest of it sound like tune up and run ability issues. Since it got hot do you still have good compression and ruled out a head gasket? I would check the compression, look over ignition components including checking timing and consider a carb...

    What Generation Alpha

our host here has a search by serial for merc drives and engines - https://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercruiser-stern-drive/index.php that ensures you will get the right parts for your application. They usually have both aftermarket and OEM options. Typically getting OEM impellers is worth...

Bravo 3 stern drive 5.7 engine. Boat leaking through the arm that connects to the gimbal ring that passes through the transom.

Agreed but depends on the boat. My buddies 28 ft bayliner saved him a lot of work to not pull the engine. In my 21 ft bow rider its way easier to pull the engine. If you read his first post he mentioned JR marine and wasn't sure what it was about, just providing options.
